Waverly Hills Sanitorium
Sept. 4th, 2005 -By Matt
Could there be any place on earth more haunted than Waverly Hills Sanitorium? Probably. Have I been to it? No.
Waverly Hills Sanitorium has been dubbed many different things, from "Most haunted place in the world" to "One of the top 10 haunted places in the United States". I've heard a lot about the place and read even more, and was very captivated by the story. I had to go down.
Thea and I were invited by "A GROUP" to go on an all night investigation of the place. I had heard that is was totally worth it by a friend of ours,
Beth from Grave Addiction. So I head out to Louisville, KY and met the rest of the group there.
We started our tour at midnight I do believe, and we started it on the second floor. The first floor was being redone for Halloween. They host two haunted houses on the first floor.
The second floor looks just like the third and the fourth, as far as I know. Long, dark hallways that seem to lead to nowhere. Even though there were 12 of us including two tour guides, there was still a feeling of lonliness.
The hospital seems to have a life of its own. It's hard to explain, but the whole time we were in the building I felt as if we were being watched constantly, by hundreds of eyes. The building almost seemed to be keeping track of us. At least that's how I felt about the place.
The second floor was interesting enough, but it set the tone for the rest of the building. From the outer wall that contained all of the "open windows" we looked up to the third floor and seen a shadow moving about very rapidly. I told one of the tour guides about it in case someone had broken in. They had previously told us about the constant number of break-ins they have and so I was being safe. The tour guide told me they would've caught whoever it was way before they got to the third floor. So it was what we seen. A shadow that couldn't stop moving.
When we got to the third floor I went over to that room and started taking random pictures. I took roughly 12 pictures. When I was done, my camera wasn't. It continued to take another 11 pictures on its own. The tour guide with me was shocked, and so was I! My camera's never done that before. And on top of that, I had problems shutting it off and after I got it off and back on, the display on it was messed up.
From there we made our way down the hallway to the end of the floor. This may have been on the second floor or the third, I can't really remember. But we were told of a little boy named Timothy. Timothy was 5 or 6 when he died at Waverly, but while he was alive he had a rubber bound ball that he liked to play with. Apparently he lost it before he died, and so he's still hanging around the hospital looking for his ball.
Thea, RJ, and I walked into a room at the end of that floor and we were the only people at that end of the hospital. I had my camcorder on and recording, RJ had an EMF Detector on and Thea was asking questions with her digital recorder. Among the many questions, the one I'll always remember was, "Timothy, do you like to play hide and seek?" The reason I'll always remember that question is, that's when I heard an audible answer! Thea and RJ said they didn't hear it, but I heard it clear as day. Thea's digital recorder didn't pick it up, but when I got home and checked my camcorder, it was on there!
That wasn't the only time Timothy spoke to us. Thea asked him how old he was and he responded with "I came for my ball." Thea also asked him to give us a sign of his presence, and RJ's EMF Detector went off. That was the only time all night it went off.
We stopped on the roof before going down to the fourth floor because the of the fourth floor's reputation. On the roof is the infamous Room 502. Nothing happened up there while we were there, other than everyone's thermometers going crazy. On the roof they were registering 20 degrees and lower, when it was obviously not that cold. I think it got down to the low 70's that night. And it wasn't just one thermometer that did this. Thea also got an EVP by the swingset on the children's wing.
We headed back down to the fourth floor and everyone went their seperate ways. I found myself alone and on the apparent most haunted floor in the building. And I must be honest... I've been in many different haunted places, and it really doesn't bother me. This place bothered me.
So I walked down the middle hallway and found a group of ladies sitting in the hallway, relaxing from the long night we had already had, and trying to get pictures as well as EVP. So I took a seat in the hallway and ran my camcorder. I decided to take the rest of my pictures while there and so I snapped a few. And once again the camera started snapping on its own! The women started taking pictures of my camera and I filmed it with the camcorder. Even after the display read I had 0 pictures left, it continued to snap. I finally got it turned off, and it was about time for us to leave.
I made the long drive home early in the morning, feeling like I had just lived a dream. The whole experience was overwhelming and straight out of a horror movie. The look of the place, the feeling of the place, the experiences we had... I was thankful that I got to do it. And I can't wait to go back!
Waverly Hills EVP's!
Just right click and "save target as" if you want to keep them, or just click them to listen! You'll be listening toward the end of each for the sound. The last one is what we're totally sure about.
Either the one that we think says "Bertha" or the "Odd Noises" one is the one where Thea left her digital recorder in the hospital while we were all out taking a break and nobody was in the hospital at the time.
Also, the "I come for my ball" I had to make part of it louder just so it could be heard. In the beginning you'll hear Thea ask how old he is and then you'll hear him say "I come for my ball". It sounds a little off due to me trying to make it louder so it was easier to hear Timothy, and the change in sound isn't part of the EVP.
"Take Over" or "Take Cover"
"Bertha"
Odd Noises
"Go get help."
"Help us bitch."
"I come for my ball."
Waverly Hills Video!
Coming soon... hopefully!
